Sderot Security Headquarters Neighborhood Patrol

This is the fourth month that Sderot Security Committee has been running activities for the children of Sderot. What had started as a small family event on Sukkot has become a weekly activity for kids and teenagers.

Within the security board they call it the “Neighborhood Patrol”. Every day volunteers show up in a different center, and organize fun activities such as: clowns, magicians, games with prizes, songs, contests, quizzes and more. The volunteers who run the activities are teens from schools in the Sderot area: “Ulpanat Amit” and “Mekif Dati.”

Noam Katzav, one of the volunteers, says that the kids aren’t the only ones who benefit from the activities. “Seeing these kids smiling and enjoying themselves, gives me strength. The fact that living in Sderot is difficult is no secret. Some people get depressed, and leave town. That’s why it’s so great to see kids running around having fun. There were times when during an activity we heard Code Red and had to stop in the middle, but after things cooled down and the warning was off, we just continued as if nothing had happened. I think that is a way of coping with the situation.”

Chava, mother of 4 tells: “It’s very important to me that my kids go outdoors and play, and are not locked up at home all the time. It was so thrilling to see my kids running around, having a good time and laughing, and the volunteers who run the activities so beautifully. I especially want to thank Rivkah Peretz and Limor Malka who show up every single week- well done!!”

Alon Davidi, Security Committee Chairman says that the activities will just keep expanding. “We plan on moving forward with the neighborhood patrol. The beauty of the activities is that we work with Sderot suppliers only, supporting local businesses. We are very encouraged by the project’s success and the warm responses that we get. There is no doubt this projects gives a lot of hope to the kids and families of Sderot, and with God’s help there will be more.”
