The Committee for a Secure Sderot has been in touch with the Bnei Akiva school network to encourage the purchasing of furniture and office supplies from businesses in Sderot. Benei Akiva has 60 Yeshiva school branches spread out all over the country, and numbers approximately 20,000 students. The project’s goal is to concentrate the buying of all furniture and office supplies from Sderot, in order to strengthen local furniture businesses.
President of the Bnei Akiva network, Elchanan Glat says he feels obligated to strengthen Sderot residents, who stand in the front line of the Palestinian terror. He found a strong motivation among the Bnei Akiva institutions to join and support the cause.
“We cannot solve the Kassam terror, but we can definitely help raise the spirits of our brothers, the Sderot residents.”
Since the project was announced, there has been response from a number of schools. One of the schools signed a contract with an office furniture company in Sderot, ordering furniture for approximately 40,000 NIS.
The Bnei Akiva School’s treasurer, Dani Hirshberg, and Alon Davidi, Sderot Security Headquarter chairman, run the project. Davidi locates the furniture factories in Sderot, and Hirshberg finds potential buyers amongst the Bnei Akiva institutions.
Next week a meeting will be held with a factory for disposable goods in Sderot, in order to sign a similar contract to supply the Beni Akiva schools with paper plates.
