What to do during a Kassam Attack:
Against the daily threat proper behavior saves lives.
The Danger:
The most dominant danger on Israel`s home front in the last few years. Almost every day Kassams are fired at the Negev specifically the Northern Negev region. The Kassam rockets damage the surroundings and injure residents. Those who are not in a protected place during a rocket attack are exposed to injury from a direct hit, as well as injury from the shockwave of the explosives in the rocket, and from shrapnel which in itself is very dangerous.
How to prepare for an attack:
In light of the warning, it is important to designate the place in which to take shelter during an attack. The primary shelter is a reinforced room (known as Mamad in Hebrew) or private/public bomb shelter. If you do not have access to one of these, the secondary choice is a protected room (according to the specifications given by the home-front command). Make sure that everyone in the home knows which room is the designated shelter. It is important to designate such shelter in every place you might find yourself. It is important to include in this room a first aid kit, and to prepare your family.
.
How to recognize a Kassam attack.:
When you either hear a loud siren, or an explosion, or the "color red" alarm system. The "color red" alarm system provides at the most 15-20 warning.
What to do during an attack:
Indoors:
Go directly to the Reinforced Room (Ma`mad) and close the steel window. In a building or home without a Mamad take the following action:
1.Go to the room that is the furthest away from the direction that the Kassams are fired and that has the least amount of external walls, windows and doors.
2.Close the doors, windows and other openings to the room.
3.Sit on the floor against a wall that does not face outside and be shure that you are not facing a window and are sitting underneath the windowsill.
4.Apartment residents in apartment that do not have a Reinforce Room (Ma`mad) are required to exit the apartment and sit in the stairwell one floor down. The protected room can be a stairwell or a hallway if they mach the description of a protected room better than those of the rooms of the apartment or house.
Outdoors:
In a residential aria – enter the nearest building and follow the instructions given above.
In a vehicle:
Carefully pull over to the side of the road and stop the car, get out of the car and enter the nearest building or shelter.
In an open field – Lie on the ground and cover your head with your hands.
After the attack:
It is permissible to exit the shelter after 5 minutes, unless you hear orders to do otherwise.
Do not touch objects that belong to the rocket. If you have identified the place where the rocket landed keep people away and call the police.
